Just read about a doll exhibit entitled
Black Dolls, running through July 5, 2015 at the Mingei International Museum in San Diego. The exhibit features 125 dolls dating from 1850 to 1940, all displaying the make do ingenuity of creating a doll with the materials available on hand, including cloth, shell, leather, sock bodies, etc.. The result is a stunning array of folk art that reflects personality and whimsy. Go visit if you can.
